Our story
Safe At My House was created in September 2021 in response to the injustices faced by kids and families who have been affected by teen violence in their communities.
The founder, Julie Gillette, formed the organization in the wake of her nephew’s friend, a young victim of gun violence. He was only 17 years old and still had his whole life ahead of him. As for the perpetrator, another teen, he will face the serious legal repercussions of his actions over his inability to resolve disputes without violence.
These two teens lost their lives because there was no system in place to prevent this type of horrible event.

Hi, my name is Michelle Schreiber. I have been volunteering as the Director of Social Media Marketing with Safeatmyhouse since 2022. Throughout my life I have personally experienced Trauma, PTSD and Depression where my Mental Heath affected my life and lives around me. My life experiences gave me a diverse perspective and allowed me to help others find the recovery I have been given. My purpose here is to reach out to those that have been through similar experiences as me and help them through the process of recovery. I believe working with others and volunteering is the key to Self Recovery on a daily basis. I strive to use the tools I have learned to work with people in recovery from various causes such as Addiction, Trauma, PTSD, Depression, Family Trauma and Mental Health. Working for a nonprofit organization like Safeatmyhouse has been a live saving opportunity and I want to give others a second chance at life
